Frequently Asked Questions
- How long does it take to create a project from a picture on my computer?
Generally speaking, the time it takes to upload the picture is the most time consuming element of creating your project (which depends on your internet connection and the size of your picture). The software literally creates your project in seconds. As soon as you make a change to an option (project size, for example), a new version displays. For larger projects, calculations may take a few seconds.
- What happened to the free service?
The programs here were written based on frustrations we had in searching for decent latch hook projects. The variety was far too limited, and the idea of turning pictures taken with our digital camera into latch hook projects was considered. Software was nowhere to be found, so we wrote our own. In keeping with the current trend toward a more open community when it comes to software, we decided to share with the world - no reason not to! To avoid confusion between the two sites, the free service site is available on leftsource.com.
- What about cross stitch?
We've heard enough feedback to realize that cross stitch has enough of a following for us to write some more code. We can't provide a timeframe for its availability, but it is on our radar.
- Where can I get software to create projects on my own?
There is no program we know of with the functionality available on our site. Our "program" is a combination of html and scripts and tools that run on Linux, and we don't know how they could be run on a desktop, much less on a Windows or Apple computer. If you really want to attempt creating a project using a desktop computer, our only suggestion would be to start out with a graphics editing program like Gimp or Photoshop.
